A board of your own.

Start with the words. Then decide what deserves to surround them.

An alphabet board is a very orderly thing wearing a very imaginative surface.

The letters need to be readable. The reply words need room. The numbers should be easy to distinguish, and a pointer needs a usable path across them. Those simple demands leave a surprising amount of freedom.

Begin with a name

A title sets the tone. It might name a place, a circle of friends, a private joke, or an imaginary institution. Keep it short enough that it has room to breathe. A strong title does more than a crowded border.

Choose contrast before ornament

Dark letters on a pale ground have a practical advantage: you can see them. A dark board can be striking, too, if the letter color stays clear. Judge your design at the size of the finished object rather than only on a glowing screen.

The SpiderPunk atelier works in a 24 × 19-inch landscape proportion. Its downloadable design is a preview of your choices. Before a physical print is made, Nicholas will confirm the final artwork, paper, finish, margins and quote with you.

The print is one part of the object

A paper print needs a suitable support and a considered surface. Think about mounting, protection, and how the planchette will move before you buy materials. An attractive image alone does not settle those decisions. Describe the board you want to build when you request your print so the practical choices can be discussed together.

Give the letters space. Give the object a name. Leave yourself something to decide.
